Talk about headline volatility and risk. President Trump’s tweet, starting with “Good things are happening” with the US-China trade talks was enough to potentially cause the Dow to surge 450 points today.
The Dow is currently up 450 points (1.7%), the S&P 500 also rose 1.7%, and the Nasdaq jumped slightly higher closing up 1.9%
Tech drove the rally with Amazon, Facebook, and Alphabet advancing 1%. Apple and Micron Technology both jumped up 2%.
Imports to the US rose 0.2% in September as economists were expecting that figure to remain unchanged.
Moving forward, it’s important to remember that the trade war has been ongoing for over a year. The tariffs are still in place. And until a deal is reached, its effect on earnings and global growth remains more or less uncertain.
